One of the biggest challenges of our time is a dual one: the need to meet rising energy demand while at the same time reducing carbon emissions. The centre of gravity of energy demand is shifting, with the expanding middle classes in Asia accounting for much of the growth in global GDP and energy consumption over the next 20 years. There are many other challenges facing the industry as the global energy system evolves. New technologies are revolutionizing the way in which that energy is produced, transported and consumed.

The challenge is to understand, adapt and ultimately thrive in this changing energy landscape. Along with these challenges come opportunities – and that is what makes this a really exciting time for the industry.

AERL Members are invited to join us to hear fresh insight into these trends presented by Mr Peter Mather, Group Regional President, Europe & Head of Country UK at BP plc. Mr Peter Mather was appointed Head of Country UK in January 2004. His functions then expanded to include the role of Regional President for Europe in 2010. Mr Mather's career in BP has included oil trading, refining and shipping in London, New York, Paris and Brussels; senior strategic planning roles, initially in BP's upstream Global Gas group, and then in the Corporate Centre; and responsibility for BP’s Gas & Power business in the UK.
